The United Methodist University (UMU) of Liberia will on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, hold its brand of the United Methodist Church (UMC) #GivingTuesday. The global initiative is intended to raise funds in support of all United Methodist projects including the UMU relocation project. Launched since November 1, 2017, the UMU brand of the UMC #Giving Tuesday is intended to raise $34 million United States dollars.  The project will be implemented in 4 phases for the next 12 years.

According to the President of the UMU, Prof. Johnson N. Gwaikolo, the need for the UMU to relocate is now higher than it has been. He said the students of the University need to take the first step in funding the relocation exercise, adding, “when someone is helping you, you need to help yourself.” Prof. Gwaikolo indicated that students, as well as the UMU administration, need to see the UMC #GivingTuesday as their personal investment in the future of their children who may come to the University. “Contribute to this worthy cause to ensure a better learning environment for the future generation of Liberia,” he concluded.

The UMC #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated

on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, UMC #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season in the United Methodist Church when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community which is what the United Methodist University is doing.

Since its inaugural year in 2012, UMC #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources including the United Methodist Church Advance Asking.
